My name is Suzanne and I am a dentist in Northern Ireland and the founder of ohtooth. The idea for the business was born out of frustration of being unable to buy professional standard, eco-friendly oral hygiene products for me and my family.
The business idea for ohtooth was developed with support from some very knowledgeable and creative friends. We launched our first eco-friendly dental product – toothpaste tablets – in Sept 2022.
A single ohtooth tablet contains the exact amount of fluoride toothpaste needed to brush your teeth. They are vegan, SLS free, free from harsh chemicals, not tested on animals, micro-plastic free and contain the recommended 1450ppm fluoride as well as having natural mint flavouring. They are made in the UK and come in plastic-free packaging, with each packet containing 100 tablets – roughly equivalent to a large tube of toothpaste.
Toothpaste tablets are excellent for travel as well as fully replacing everyday conventional toothpaste at home. Using them will cut your carbon footprint and reduce unrecyclable waste (toothpaste tubes can stay in the environment for more than 400 years!).
Toothpaste tablets feel a little different in use than conventional toothpaste. They have a gentle, foaming cleaning action with a milder, natural flavour. I find they foam best when used with a manual toothbrush, however you can use an electric brush if you prefer – they will work just as well. The tablets are for everyone over age 7.
They are particularly helpful for mouths with sore and tender gums or if you are prone to ulcers. They are beneficial if you have a sensitivity to SLS and for neurodiverse children and adults who struggle to use conventional foaming, strongly flavoured fluoride toothpaste.
